Key Finding¶
The LaCie stores all Google Drive content under a Google-Drive/ parent folder (i.e. Google-Drive/Documents/...). After normalizing for this prefix, approximately 55% of files exist in both locations by path. The remaining files are split between LaCie-only (1.19M files / 1.59 TB) and GDrive-only (416K files / 0.47 TB).
Note: This comparison is path-based only — files with matching paths have not been compared by checksum or modification date. Some "matching" files may differ in content.

Notable¶
- Personal is massively larger on the LaCie (1.57M files / 1,539 GB) vs Google Drive (394K files / 350 GB). This folder accounts for the vast majority of LaCie-only content.
- FotoFast 2025 (356 GB, 9,772 files) exists only on the LaCie — never uploaded to GDrive.
- All Scans copy is a duplicate of "All Scans" that only exists on the LaCie.
- FastFoto.zip (37 GB) sits at LaCie root level, outside the Google-Drive folder.

Notable¶
- Documents is massively larger on Google Drive (1.17M files / 1,186 GB) vs LaCie (777K files / 903 GB). This folder accounts for the vast majority of GDrive-only content.
- SSD-backup (173.5 GB, 17,512 files) exists only in Google Drive — never pulled to the LaCie.
- Helens Book Scan 2025-04-28 exists only in Google Drive.
- Numerous loose Google Docs/Sheets files at the GDrive root with long AI-generated names (e.g. "ok so show me it all again...xlsx") — these are GDrive-native documents.

Notes¶

Path comparison only — this audit matched files by path after stripping the
Google-Drive/prefix from LaCie paths. Files with identical paths have NOT been compared by size, checksum, or modification date. A follow-uprclone check --size-onlyor--checksumagainst the normalized paths would confirm whether "common" files are actually identical. -
Google Drive account — the pre-existing
gdrive:rclone remote was connected toadmin@ucca.online, nottim@ucca.edu.au. A new remotegdrive-Tim@ucca.edu.auwas created for this audit. Theadmin@ucca.onlineremote was left untouched. -
Google Drive storage — the account shows 100 TiB total (Workspace edu), 5.14 TiB used in Drive, 1.79 TiB in other services (Gmail/Photos), and 257.7 GB in trash.

The two biggest divergences are mirror images:
- "Personal" is much bigger on LaCie (+1.19 TB, +1.18M files)
- "Documents" is much bigger on GDrive (+283 GB, +396K files)
